Sugar is much cheaper, in relative terms, than it was in 1911. The price difference is, in fact, even greater than it appears, because it compares a 1kg bag (2.2lbs) with 2lbs in 1911. The main reason is the economies of scale which have been made in its production, but the existence of competing sweetening products have probably also played a part.
